The First Birthday!!

She had got up very early today. In fact couldn’t sleep also properly entire night. The excitement was unprecedented. Entire night she was planning for already planned next day. She got up even before alarm buzzed.

Silently she came out in the back yard and saw the dawn. There was a little bit of cold but she liked it. She liked it because he liked it. She was excited as she would meet him today after fifteen days. Though it’s not a very long time but for her it was. She was all the more excited as it was his birthday today.

She looked up at the sky which was getting red with charm of the rising sun. Birds had started going out for their daily routine. Their chirping was filling the atmosphere with a lovely music.

On his last birthday, he had somehow managed to be with her but this time it couldn’t be possible. She wasn’t disheartened though; she would go to meet him.

After soaking in the sacredness of that morning, she started with her daily chores. She knew that he likes food cooked by her so she cooked his favorite dishes as his gift as well.

After completing the work, she hurriedly started getting ready. She would meet him at their regular time. She knows that he doesn’t like to wait and generally she wouldn’t mind making him wait for her some time but today was his day. She would have to make it special for him.

It was almost past ten in the morning when she started for him after looking in the mirror for a million times. For a moment she felt embarrassed on her stupidity as well but she didn’t want to take any chance today so she once again checked herself.

She moved with quick steps on her way. It was a little difficult for her as she carried her purse in one hand and in another hand one bag carrying his gifts. However, the excitement kept her going.

When she reached at their meeting place, he was already there. Her heart skipped a beat when she looked at him but she calmed herself.

She started moving towards him and the closer she started getting to him, her breaths started getting heavier. When she reached near him, she stood there silently.

She kept looking at him while he seemed undisturbed. After what looked like a decade, she kept the gift bag down and started taking out the food items she had brought for him.

When she was about to feed him, one elderly person came and disturbed her.

‘what are you doing?’- He asked puzzled.

She smiled, offered that sweet box to him and said-

‘I’m celebrating my husband’s birthday baba. You see his name on the tomb. It’s his first birthday since he came here.’
