A Short Love Story!!

She liked the way he sat there.

Covering half the seat, spreading his legs fully on the floor, hands spread on the seat, as if he is sitting in his living room. Totally oblivious of his surroundings which had only noise just like any other railway station in India.

Passengers were moving here and there, coolies rushing for the train which had arrived just now from Jhansi and vendors ready for the kill; Nagpur railway station was used to this phenomenon for a number of times during the day.

She sat at the window seat of the train just arrived on platform number one. Bored from this long journey, anxiously looking at the platform to get down but her father stopped her.

Irritated she sat there and looked outside when she saw him.

She found him cute. She kept looking at him till the moment he caught her gaze and then sheepishly she turned her gaze in other direction.

He found her sweet and unknowingly he sat up straight, folding his legs and keeping his hands in his lap.

Her dark brown eyes moving here and there avoiding his gaze, her black hair flipping on her face, her lips making an O as if she was whistling. His view was getting hindered by the people moving around but he still concentrated on her.

He heard a ting in his heart the moment she laughed on seeing something on the station.

He looked down to reflect on what just happened and when he looked up, he caught her again. Oops, she smiled and he smiled too.

He was somehow controlling his lips to not to smile now. He was somehow controlling his heart to not to stop working. He was somehow controlling himself to not to move towards her.

She meanwhile turned her back to the window. His heart sank. He looked at her desperately to move towards him. She didn’t.

Suddenly he saw the train starting with a thump. She had still not turned her back and he was totally restless by now.

He saw the train moving slowly but what could he do? He kept staring at her with hope in his eyes and a prayer on his lips. As if God listened to his prayer, when her compartment came in front of his seat, he saw her turning her face at him. This time their gaze met and they didn’t avoid it.

She smiled. He smiled too.

She winked. Wow. He winked too.

She waved. He waved with a broken heart.

That’s it. He stood up but the train had caught speed now and her boggy had moved ahead of him.

He kept looking at the window she sat. He saw one hand coming out of that window. It was her. He recognized the band she was wearing.

She threw something.

He ran to take it. He would keep it as a souvenir of his short love story.

By the time he reached, a passenger had moved over that cup. He still picked it up. It was totally crushed. He straightened it and then he smiled. His heart smiled.

One ten digit number was written on it with a name- Khushi.
