How to remain positive in current time!

It is said that a child listens to a NO almost 400 times a day while growing up.

No wonder, we are more inclined to the negative things around us when we grow up because unknowingly, our subconscious mind has been trained for that only.

And the kind of world we live in, it is filled with more negativity than positivity.

There are a million reasons for that.

And more than ever, at least in our lifetime, there hasn’t been a time with more negativity around us.

The pandemic has taken over the entire world.

The news, the social media, the discussions, everything is centered on only one thing and that has brought a heap of negativity around us.

Well in the normal course, we had so many options to escape from it but now, there are so many things which are adding to it.

Like we can’t move out, we can’t meet our people, we can’t go to our favorite places, we can’t eat our favorite food and the list goes on.

Things seem uncertain, future looks bleak and it looks like hell is broken loose.

All these things are adding to the negativity we are having around us and within us.

Can we go on like this?

I’m sure we can’t.

We need some fresh air of positivity to take us away from all the tensions and fear around us.

With all the restrictions imposed on us, of course for our own good only, here are the few things which will definitely help you feel positive and upbeat about yourself and the future.

1)Stay away from news and social media

I remember one essay I got to write in my school days-‘Science- a boon or bane’

Though I wrote what I could understand then, the real meaning of that has sunk now only.

Social media, news has been there for us to connect and know the world for better.

However, there are more people who are using it to spread more negativity, more rumors in current times than helping each other to go through this storm.

And when we consume that negativity, our fear increases exponentially; no matter what the actual circumstances are.

So to avoid that, avoid the news and social media, or if you can’t, restrict your exposure to it and that too do it at a time, when you know after that you can distract yourself with some other stuff.

2) Meditate
Meditation is often seen something very difficult, very special thing which only a few of us could do.

The fact is that all of us can do that.

It’s nothing but being aware of the moment we are in.

Once we do that, we do realize that at any moment, we are far-far away from any problem; our mind is either visualizing what happened in the past or what might happen in the future.

Can we control any of them?

NO

What is left then?

The present without any problem and worries.

3) Physical Exercise:
Physical exercise is known to elevate the mood as it produces endorphins-chemicals produced by the body to reduce stress.

This also helps in getting better sleep which also reduces stress.

Other ways to produce endorphins in the body are meditation, massage therapy and deep breathing.

Endorphins not only reduce stress, but also help in bringing the feeling of euphoria.

No wonder, almost all the positive and successful people in this world have a daily exercise routine.

4)  Count your blessings
This one is my favorite.

Whenever you are in stress, or tension or feeling negative, start counting the things you are grateful for in your life.

It can be anything.

Start with you being alive today, your dear ones being healthy and so on and before you know it, you would realize how blessed your life is.

This one exercise not only brings more positivity in our lives, but this also brings more clarity about what matters in our lives.

And by knowing that your life is filled with so many blessings, you can’t help but feel positive.

5) Connect with the lost friends
There is no better feeling than connecting with the people who know your real self before the world took you over.

With almost pack schedules, new priorities, we seldom find time to connect with old friends.

Now we have time, and we know others too.

Connect with them, live your old time, reboot old memories and see yourself smiling or laughing about the time when you had nothing but you were everything you wanted to be.

And when you do that, just feel the energy within you. The Goosebumps on your body will tell you the story.

6) Visualize
There is a book called ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Victor Frankl.

He was a holocaust survivor. The book is about his experience in one of the most inhuman experiences in human history and how he survived that.

He told that there was nothing I could control about what was happening around me. They had full control over my body.

What they couldn’t control was my mind.

I visualized every day how my life would be & what I would do once I go out from here, and he did all those things after that horrible experience was over.

In our current scenario also, we have very little control over what is happening around us but we can have full control over what goes on in our mind.

Visualize all that you want to have, be and do once this ordeal is over.

That would give you a purpose, a direction and strength to grow through this period.

And once you have that, you can’t help but feel positive about life.

These are the things which have helped me to stay positive in today’s times and whenever
I have faced any problem in my life and I’m sure it would help you too.

Work on them, feel them and see the difference yourself, the same world will look like a different one altogether.

It does for me and it would be for you for sure.
